2022 Goals and Resolutions

Hi friends! I hope you all are having a lovely Thursday. This month has absolutely flown by and I can’t believe it’s already Christmas Eve-Eve (for those who celebrate it)! Today my family will be going to the mall to do our annual secret Santa shopping, then we will come home to make homemade pizzas and have a dessert bake off! I may be biased, but I fully believe that my boyfriend and I’s mint chocolate chip fudge will be the winner. 😊

2022 is just around the corner and, for me, this time of the year typically consists of lots of reflecting and hopeful thinking for the upcoming year. I absolutely love setting goals for the New Year, because it feels like a chance to take a deep breath and hit a little refresh button in my mind.

2021 was a big year for me. I graduated from college after finishing a gruesome 20+ page thesis paper on Victorian feminism in Norwegian plays, and was extremely stressed about finding a job once I arrived home. Having the holidays to slowly get into gear for the New Year has definitely been a big help, and I am so excited for what’s to come once that clock strikes midnight on January 1st!

With all that said, I am also excited to share with you some of my goals and resolutions for the upcoming year. I may stick to these or I may not, and that’s okay! If I can accomplish even one of these goals, I would call that a successful year. πŸ’–

This past year I tried out the generic New Years goals of working out more and bullet journaling, so in 2022 I particularly want to focus more on my mind and mentality on a daily basis.

  1. Start the day earlier.
    • I’ve found that some of my most productive hours happen when I get my day started relatively early. I’m still not the type of person who can function before 7am, however, if I was able to start working a little bit after that I know I could get a lot done both with work and my online platforms.
  2. Time Management.
    • I don’t have a huge issue with time management, however, with my new job and all that I hope to do with my blog, I mainly just want to keep reminding myself to make the most out of each day.
  3. More mindful spending.
    • I sadly never deny myself anything when it comes to my spending habits (especially when it comes to books), but this year I want to try and become more mindful about what I am buying. I want to prioritize the books I already own, while possibly treating myself to a new release every now and then.

  1. Read more diversely in terms of genre.
    • Though my constant goal is to read diversely in terms of representation, this year I additionally want to challenge myself to venture out into new genres. Of all the books I read in 2021, about 80% of them were adult romances. While I love a good romcom, I’m not as proud of my reading list as I usually am, and that has to do with the fact that I stayed in my comfort zone. Outside of romances, I love to read both YA and adult mysteries/thrillers, and have recently gotten more interested in memoirs and essays. I’m obviously going to still read romances, but I’m excited to change up the narrative a bit!
  2. Annotate and log my reading progress.
    • I’ve recently started tabbing my books and even started highlighting in them as well (which still feels strange as I was someone who refused to even fold the corners of my pages). I want to definitely keep up with highlighting meaningful quotes or moments that simply make me smile. I also want to acquire a reading journal and do some personal reflecting on the books I read. I tried a bullet journal last year, but it was a bit too time consuming, so I’m definitely in the market for a pre-formatted journal!
  3. TBR jar of backlist titles.
    • I tend to leave many books unread on my shelves while I acquire new ones and read them instantly. As a solution, I want to create a TBR jar filled with the titles that have been sitting on my shelves, unread, for over a year so that I can finally give them the attention they deserve!
  4. Participate in more reading challenges/readathons.
    • When I first started out in the book community, one of my favorite things to do was participate in reading challenges and readathons. I remember eagerly waiting for Ariel Bissett’s Booktube-A-Thon every summer and staying up all night to finish the challenges. While I won’t be pulling all-nighters, I definitely want to have a couple of reading prompts to challenge myself. I’m in dire need of some challenge recs, so if you know of any you like, feel free to list them in the comments. I would be eternally grateful! πŸ₯°
  5. Listen to more audiobooks.
    • This past year I’ve definitely found a new love for verbal storytelling, so I want to try and listen to at least one audiobook each month!

  1. Post consistently!
    • I’ve had this blog for over a year now and have never posted consistently for over two months. While my stressful final semester of college may have been the catalyst of my commitment issues, I do want to try and post consistently throughout 2022. However, I do want to prioritize quality over quantity, so as long as I’m posting 2-3 times a week, that is alright with me!
  2. More Bookstagram Content.
    • In the past, I’ve tended to compared myself to other creators when it comes to bookstagram. However, I’ve found that my more casual and cozy photos can be just as pretty to look at, and are actually fun for me to create! I hope that I can keep up with posting them in 2022. 😊
  3. BookTok some more!
    • What got me back into reading avidly after a three year break was actually BookTok. I loved the community on there and enjoyed the recommendations I was receiving. I have so much fun creating videos on that platform while using silly sounds and effects, and I also hope to keep posting them in the New Year!

Thank you so much for reading today’s post! What are some of your reading, blogging, or personal goals for the new year?  Please let me know in a comment, or drop a link below if you’ve written a similar post! I hope you all have a lovely rest of the year. πŸ’–

  1. Great post! Congratulations on finishing uni (I remember how relieved I was when I finished lol)! πŸ˜ƒ Looks like you’ve got some great goals in the coming year. I’m also not one that can cheerfully function before 7am (I’ve definitely been spoiled by WFH flexible hours lol) but I admire those who can, lol. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family (dessert bake-off sounds so fun) and have a great year in 2022! 😊

    1. Thank you so much, Dini! It’s definitely a big relief finally being done with college. I’ve also been spoiled by WFH hours, especially School From Home hours hahaha. Thank you so much for your kind comment, happy holidays to you as well 😊

  2. These goals are fantastic! I hope you can accomplish all of them – I have faith in you! I relate to so many of these, especially time management and better spending habits. I’m also pretty free with buying books whenever I especially want one, and I even held myself back from placing a book order just today, but I keep second-guessing it because there’s a sale. πŸ˜‚ It’s so difficult, but I know we can do it!

    1. Thank you so much for the sweet comment! Ahhh the Barnes and Noble 50% off sale has had me showing serious restraint lol. I’m proud of myself for only getting 1 book, but I could have done some serious damage!
